Tom Mehlert, MAEd serves as the Executive Director for Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology (AZ StRUT), a non-profit organization that facilitates the refurbishing of computers from industry by students for other non-profit organizations and schools. He also served on the AZ StRUT Board of Directors for four years. He taught and managed technical education for over twenty years. Tom holds both a Bachelor and Master Degree in education. He has been involved in technology and or education since 1983.
Formed in 1997 by founding sponsors Intel & Motorola, AZ StRUT is a partnership between local schools and businesses, where students learn new skills by refurbishing used computer equipment. The equipment is then donated to Arizona schools, non-profits , Libraries and Title 1 students. AZ StRUT donates an average $500,000 worth of equipment each year. What we do not refurbish is recycled, In 2017 we recycled 438 tons of E-waste.
